My brother texted me at 6:09 this morning with a Scripture that came after a dream. He saw people in a room, men of enormous stature and bearing. They looked human, but he knew they were angels conferring. The door to this heavenly room opened, and a being walked in. It was obvious he was the one in charge. He had a sense of military weight, but wasn’t dressed as a soldier. He held one single shining golden key, and began a discussion with the other men. Finally he said, “It’s time to give the key to (my name).”
When he woke up, the key of David mentioned in Revelation 3 to the church in Philadelphia immediately came to his mind. Philadelphia is of special significance to our family. They were known for their love. It’s a bit ironic, as Philadelphia comes from philos, one of the Greek words for love, and I’m dealing with my husband not knowing what love really is.
We brainstormed briefly as to what the dream and passage could mean.
- David
- David opened gates no other person could. What he locked, nobody could open. He had that authority. He was the most successful military leader in Israel. There’s a verse that refers to not one of his bones was broken in all his fighting (immense preservation).
- I’ve been in battle training for the last 14 years. David was anointed, then went back to tending sheep. Saw Goliath and stepped forward. Only became king much later.
- Isaiah refers to key of David. Connection to Revelation scripture?
- He had the key to God’s heart; praise and worship was a unique key.
- Keys in the Bible — Keys of the kingdom, what you bind/loose on earth will be in heaven
- Crown – Talking about how I’ve lived my life, he told me, “Don’t lose your crown. It’s there, protected, no luster lost or blemish on it.”
- New name – Referring to new Jerusalem, on a pillar. But what about my name, now that I’m no longer a Mrs.?
There’s a lot to unpack there. Whatever it is, obviously something’s happening in the spirit world.
I went to DJ’s women’s Bible study tonight. They’re almost done with the book they’ve been studying, Whisper by Mark Batterson. Oh my goodness, how much revelation I got from the chapter we covered today (no pun intended)! But what really made my jaw drop was when every woman there surrounded me and prayed for me. One of the leaders (they call her General), laid hands on me, and of all things she could pray, she prayed… Revelations 3!!! She prayed for God’s favor on me, for open doors that no man can shut, closed doors that no man can open. She also prayed that God would send someone to my husband who had already come through exactly what my husband is living.
And if that weren’t enough, one of the ladies came up to me afterward. While I had been sharing my situation with the group, she had been staring at me with her jaw dropped. Her name is Darby, and she and her husband lived my exact story. They’d been together for 14 years when she discovered he was a sex addict (porn, affairs, hiding money, all the same stuff). But he had an encounter with God. They’re still married 10 years later, and they’ve been serving in the marriage ministry in the church now for the last 6 years! What the heck?! And mind you, it was meeting DJ at my first service that led me here. I truly know my steps are being ordered by God.
Revelation 3:7–12 (ESV) — “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) — For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Psalm 37:23–24 (NKJV) — The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.
